Sometimes television can be amazing…

Marketing, Media

Sometimes television is amazing but it’s not always the programmes that are the most moving, most compelling or most enjoyed creations.  Sometimes television advertising itself grabs us and takes us on a greater emotional journey.

I’ve selected a few advertisements that have really captured my attention.  Every one of these advertisements establish a powerful emotional connection between myself and the brand advertised.

Sony BRAVIA (Balls)

Colour like no other.  You are unique and so is the BRAVIA experience.  The visuals are amazing and the simplicity is stunning. And the use of  bouncy balls suggests that Sony as a fun loving informal brand.

Sky+HD

Slow motion and a strong voice over – what more do you need?  The music builds to a climax, to an invitation to enjoy Sky+HD.  Its democratic too, for everyone..

BBC

Have we have come to expect and often ignore, the BBC goes above and beyond to break a news story.  This film shows that someimes, the story of the story is the bigger story.  The BBC take this logistical challenge in there stride – after all, this is what they do.

Orange: Together We Can Do More (Mark Beaumont)

Everything is important to our future.  His mother, his sister, his father, his friend, some school kids and a woman in Indiana.  All these people helped create Mark Beaumont;s future.  And with an Orange mobile phone in your pocket, who knows where your future will lead.

Coke

There’s nothing groundbreaking about this ad however I like it because it is cute.  It also shows that you don’t need words to make a big impact.  This ad only has four words of dialogue (“Hello” and “It’s for you”).  Who would have thought that the gigantic company like Coca-Cola could come across so innocent.

T-Mobile

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: nothing can beat a crane shot.  This ad makes good use of music.  Music is a primal thing (said Steve Jobs) and makes me think about life.
